I’m so excited to be publishing my first book review on Yellow Avenue! Today’s book review is the new release “The Rule Book” by Sarah Adams.

Sarah Adams’ “The Rule Book” is a charming and delightful read that perfectly balances humor and heart. With a narrative that is both engaging and effortlessly witty, Adams crafts a story that is sure to resonate with fans of contemporary romance. This book was released on April 2, 2024 and is definitely one to add to your tbr.

What did I think about this book?

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Overall I enjoyed this book. The plot was predictable, but most contemporary romance books have predictable plots. It wasn’t very spicy. There was really only one 🌶️ scene and it wasn’t very descriptive and it’s 79% of the way through the book. I would classify this book as an adult romance, not a spicy book.

What I loved most about this book was that the author wrote a strong female character who was also silly and goofy. She enjoyed her quirky ice cream dessert, wore eccentric outfits, and was obsessively organized. Nora took herself and her career seriously and didn’t allow herself to be thrown off by the bullying she was receiving in the office. There are many strong female characters in this book for both Nora and me to look up to. I also loved the representation of male friendship in this book. I feel like male friendships in media are always either nonexistent, not too deep, or extremely toxic. These men all had a lovely and familial relationship and they will always support each other. I would have appreciated more mental health representation in this read but overall very enjoyable.

The characters in “The Rule Book” are its true shining stars. Adams has a knack for creating protagonists who are relatable, flawed, and endearingly human. The chemistry between the main characters is palpable, driving the story forward with a mix of tender moments and laugh-out-loud interactions. The supporting cast adds depth and humor to the narrative, ensuring there’s never a dull moment.

What Did I not Like About This Book?

However, where “The Rule Book” slightly falters is in its predictability. While the story is enjoyable and the characters are well-developed, the plot doesn’t stray far from the well-trodden path of romantic comedies. This isn’t necessarily a detriment, as the book delivers on its promise of a feel-good romance, but those looking for groundbreaking twists might find it a bit too familiar. Despite this, “The Rule Book” is a solid four-star read, perfect for those who love their romances with a healthy dose of humor and heartwarming moments. Sarah Adams has indeed penned a book that is a delightful addition to any romance lover’s collection.

This novel was a favorite and with a 4 star ranking, I think this book is an excellent addition to anyone’s Spring/Summer reading list.
